HOW TO BUY CLOTHES ONLINE?
So you have decided to take the plunge and buy your clothing online.
Great!
How!
Read the whole thing to see why I have included the instructions for measuring a garment.
When I sell clothing I take measurements of all the clothing I am selling especially if the item is used.
If is brand new with tags. I usually direct buyer to mfg website to check on their sizing info. But a lot of people don’t like doing that, so I just measure anyway.
Here’s how I measure
On a flat surface, lay garment flat, and measure, try not to stretch fabric.
Tops - I measure straight across the chest from armpit to armpit. This then gets double to give you a chest size.
Tops - I also measure from the shoulder at the neck down to the hem.
Tops - I will measure sleeve opening.
Bottoms - measure across the waist and double, this is your waist
Bottoms - from the center of crotch down the leg to the hem is the inseam.
Bottoms - from center of crotch to top of waistband (follow zipper, if it has one) This is called the Raise.
Bottoms - Opening of the pant leg.
Most clothes of any type can be measured according to this setup.
BUT I want to buy clothes…
OK so you need new jeans. Go find you absolute favorite pair of jeans to wear, these are the ones you would live in if you had to.
Find yourself a tape measure and a flat surface.
Take you favorite jeans and measure them according to above. (I know this seems like a lot of work but would you rather go to mall and spend hundreds of dollars and try on clothes for hours)
Be sure to write these measurements down. KEEP them where you can find them.
Start shopping. Look for something labeled in the size you normally wear. Most sellers give you measurements. Look at the sizes they have listed. Are they in the ballpark?
Remember measurements can vary depending on how it is measured. So give yourself a little leeway. Personally if the size is a little more than I have shown as my measurements I buy. If it is less, I don’t buy. It is easier for me to take in, then to let out.
If the measurement are not listed, message the buyer. Give them time to complete the action. Most sellers are more than happy to go that extra mile. If they don’t want to bother with getting measurements, I would move to the next item on your list.
Just remember to give them some time. I don’t work now , so it is easy for me to get measurements any time. But a lot of people work 40 plus hour weeks and need a little longer to get to their items. 24 hours is how long I wait for a response, before I move to someone else's listing.
You should be able to use this advice across any platform for selling. Just talk to you seller nicely. Nastiness or demanding attitudes just gets you banned from that buyers listings.
